Job Title: Engineering Manager – Backend

Job Description: The Engineering Manager will lead a backend engineering squad — setting technical direction, managing engineering performance, removing blockers, and partnering with Product to deliver high-quality features that scale with Tamara’s rapid growth.

Responsibilities:*

• Lead and manage a squad of backend engineers — setting clear expectations, conducting regular 1-1s, and driving performance and growth
• Partner with Product Managers to plan and deliver sprint goals with high quality and reliability
• Contribute to backend technical architecture decisions — reviewing designs, driving technical standards, and identifying risks
• Remove blockers and manage cross-functional dependencies to keep the team delivering at pace
• Own hiring and onboarding for the squad — building a high-performing, diverse engineering team
• Drive engineering culture improvements — retrospectives, blameless post-mortems, and continuous process improvement
• Stay hands-on enough to contribute to code reviews, architecture discussions, and technical mentoring
• Partner with other Engineering Managers and the CTO on cross-squad technical alignment

Qualifications Needed:

• 7+ years of backend software engineering with 2+ years in an engineering management or tech lead role
• Strong backend proficiency in Python, Node.js, Go, or Java in production microservices environments
• Proven ability to lead and develop engineering teams in a fast-paced, high-growth product company
• Experience with cloud-native architectures (AWS/GCP), Kubernetes, and modern CI/CD practices
• Fintech, payments, or consumer technology experience preferred
• Arabic language skills preferred; must be based in or willing to relocate to Riyadh
